This peer reviewed study done by a third party for OREGON DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (DEQ) and the U.S. EPA ENVIRONMENTALLY PREFERABLE PURCHASING PROGRAM indicates that from an environmental perspective, molded eps is a lower impact choice when compared to molded pulp. Does all this mean molded pulp products are actually “bad” and foam pkg is “good”? No. But the studies do show that molded foam, and EPS in particular, can be a very reasonable and responsible pkg material choice when and where the application is appropriate (often cushioning and/or insulation) and the design is efficient.
